Can the basketball team duplicate last year?
« Thread Started on Apr 18, 2008, 12:10pm »

The basketball team did pretty good this year, but was it a fluke? Does anyone know how good they are going to be next year?

Fluke to be honest, we play in the WAC and have no players to note next season. I could be wrong, cuz im not a BB fan, but from what I understand, we are not expected to do anything major at all in the basketball world next year.

It probably was a fluke, with Larry leaving I don't think they'll be as good next year. Plus if they can't bring in some better recruits, its going to be nearly impossible to be consistently good.

True, our BB team needs some recruits, but lets face it, nobody looks in Idaho's direction first, and landing a few good recruits will only happen if we can dominate the WAC for a few more years, which I can't see us doing.

I disagree about people not wanting to come to Idaho to play basketball. Look what Washington State and Gonzaga has done for the Northwest region. And Coach Barrett Peery has put the College of Southern Idaho on the map for recruiting juco players.
Even North Idaho...junior college located in Coeur d'Alene has been making some noise in the recruiting news of lately.

CSI forward picks his college
College of Southern Idaho prospect Juan Pattillo has taken three visits to high-major schools in the last few weeks and walked away with three scholarship offers. But the 6-foot-7 Pattillo made his decision today to attend Oklahoma!

6'1" guard verbals to North Idaho Juco
Grissette commits to North Idaho -- After taking a year off of school, 2007 Elgin graduate Brandon Grissette hopes to resurrect his basketball career at North Idaho College. Grissette recently committed to play for the Division I junior college located in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The Cardinals finished 19-11 last season, and Grissette said a recent visit to the school sold him on the notion of playing for coach Jared Phay. "This might sound corny, but the one thing that really attracted me is they never talked to me about playing time," Grissette said. "The coaches talked about school first. That showed me they really were committed to sending me somewhere (after junior college)." Grissette said he hopes to either move on to a four-year school or perhaps play basketball overseas after attending North Idaho. Grissette signed last year to play at Elgin Community College, but never participated with the team after injuring his left (shooting) thumb. The 6-1 guard averaged 14.5 points and 2.1 assists during his senior season with the Maroons and was named first team All-Area.

The JC in Idaho my have turned into a hot bed for producing good players, no we just need to get Boise State to become one and I think they might be on the right track.

BSU needs to try to work with the juco coaches and get these juco players to stay/transfer within state. Get these kids to believe in the program and invite them during a big game to show the energy of the bronco nation...maybe even bring them in during a football game to show the passion of the program. Winning seems to solve a lot of problems. As long as they can keep winning they are going to get better and better recruits who want to come play here.

They really need to have more than one good season to get too excited, and hopefully they can keep winning.

I think the Juco route is a good idea. That is what Utah State has done and while they aren't the best team around I think they are pretty good considering where they are located.

One thing that hurts is even if we can get a kid to visit for a game TacoBell never is full. We must lean on the students for this one. Get tradition going. Get that place loud. If the students get it started the community will follow.

Oregon did this in the early 90's. Football got going then the students started making "The PIT" loud and thier basketball program took off too.

What kid wants to go and play in a half full arena?
