I agree with what has been said for the most part. The MWC has made it clear that they don't want Boise State so why worry about it. We just need to schedule tough, keep winning and I think everything else will fall into place. We don't need to MWC to succeed, we've done it without them so far.

I agree that Boise State's chances of not making into the MWC right now does not look good. One thing that would help would be by beating TCU. If TCU wins it gives the MWC a bigger argument to why it wouldn't need BSU, but if BSU wins it will really help our cause. So if the MWC doesn't want us then why fight them on it. Schedule better out of conference and for get them. Plus in a couple of years we will play both Utah and BYU in the same year, so that would save a lot of arguing about who is better than who.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand it would be nice to play in a tougher conference. The MWC has made it clear though that they really don't want to add Boise State if at all possible. I'm sure they are thinking why add BSU if they can get the automatic bid without them and then it would be that much easier for their own team to make it to a big money bowl, plus it is 1 less school they have to split the money with.
My feeling is why beg to get in? Boise State just needs to go it alone and do its best to schedule tougher teams out of conference. If we can just get Fresno and Nevada to start to play a little better then I think things will be just fine. If Nevada and Fresno State can start winning 9 or 10 games every year that would help a great deal and if our out of conference schedule is good then BSU will be just fine. I'm just sick of begging the MWC, we just need to do our best to beat them every time we play and just let it work itself out.

I don't know that we have to be in the MWC to be successful, but we have to start playing a better schedule if we aren't able to join a conference like the Mountain West. I think that they are starting to play tougher teams if you look at the future schedules. If we go undefeated next year there won't be near the doubt of how good Boise State really is.

Re: If BSU beats both Oregon and TCU this year.... « Result #5 on Dec 18, 2009, 12:52pm »
That is a good question and I can't think of a team off the top of my head either that could lay claim to that. Either way it would be a great accomplishment if BSU was to do that.
If BSU beats both Oregon and TCU this year.......? « Result #6 on Dec 17, 2009, 3:17pm »
Just had a thought cross my mind about Boise State beating TCU. So lets say it happens and Boise State beats them. That would mean that Boise State would have beaten the PAC-10 Champion and the MWC Champion. Does anyone now if another team has beaten two conference Champions this year?
I can't think of any off the top of my head. That would be pretty impressive if you think about it. I'm sure we would land the #2 spot to end the season and next year we could actually get that #2 spot to start the season.

That is the thing, if the Big 10 expands and so does the PAC-10 it will throw a giant wrench in everything thing. It sounds like the Big 10 is the most serious right now about the expansion. I've heard rumors that the Big 10 might take Nebraska and then the Big 12 would take TCU. Just a rumor, but if true I'm sure the MWC would take Boise State. Then again if in a few years the PAC-10 decides to add 2 teams it would really mess things up, that is if BSU wasn't selected and they took BYU and Utah.

I can see it both ways. BUT, the big thing is we need to move up to a better conference or we will be mired where we are.
My thinking is that if the BCS is going to give the MWC an automatic bid, they would be very smart to make it on condition that the MWC take on Boise State. That way, except for the MWC champ, all of us "upstarts" would have at lest one loss and would be eliminated from the possibility of a BCS game. If BSU is stuck in the WAC we could be a BCS buster every year or so.

Does Boise State really need the MWC? « Result #9 on Dec 17, 2009, 11:28am »
It sounds like the Mountain West is shying away from adding Boise State to the conference because they think they can get the bid with out having to add BSU. Here is the article from the Idaho statesman if you are interested: http://www.idahostatesman.com/boisestatefootball/story/1012411.html
My feeling is if we do things the right way, we really don't need the MWC.
1st off we have a better TV deal, being on National TV 6 or 7 times a year is better than anything the MWC conference has going for it.
2nd Why can't we do it like Gonzaga does? To make up for their weak conference they play a tough non conference schedule. Next year is a great step towards that. There is no rule though that you can't schedule just one or two BCS league teams, start to schedule 3 in a year. Play a team in the PAC-10, Big-12, and the Big-10 or something like that. I know we have a hard time scheduling, but I think it is doable if you do it far enough in advance. Playing BYU and Utah in one year like we will in the future is the same as playing a BCS team.
3rd Reason, If the MWC gets an automatic bid they are still going to have to give an automatic bid to the non-AQ school that ranks high enough. If we aren't competing against a MWC school every year for a spot and instead have to contend against Conference-USA or the MAC, I like our chances.
So if the MWC never invites us worse things have happened. Plus the Big 10 and the PAC-10 are thinking about expanding to 12. If that happens there will be 3 spots open to join one of those leagues. Chances are that the MWC will be reshuffled and we may end up moving conferences any way, without the help of the MWC.

I believe it is our improved recruiting that has helped Boise State get to this point. In 2004 the players that we had on the team were pretty much just all 1 and 2 star recruits. When never used to get the 3 and some times 4 stars that we get now. I've just noticed that when the recruiting started to get better BSU began climbing in the rankings. We have always had good coaching, but that can only take you so far.
We all saw what these coaches could do with a bunch of no name 1 or 2 star recruits, they were very good finishing ranked #15 or so every year. Now that we are getting the recruits that we used to not be able to get to come to Boise, it is now helping us finish in the top 10. I'm not down playing the coaching because it has gotten us to this point, but its the recruiting I think that has kind of put of over the edge.

Thanks for the information bleedblue. They probably didn't want to wait until after the Fiesta Bowl because they could make more money if they then produce another one to have people buy. Maybe I'm too skeptical.

yeah #2 is kind a dream I think we will be top 5 to start the seson boise state has got to be the youngest team in the top 25 AP. BOISE STATE IS #6 WOW!!!! you now what the next two years are gona be like the best years in boise state history. we need to beat TCU no dout to even be in top 5. but if we do look for them to be top 5 it is a great day to be boise state fan.

Even if we are ranked inside the top ten lets say 7 or 8, I think that would give us plenty of time to move up if we keep winning next year. Remember we were at what, 16 to start the season this year? So if we started in the top ten we could move up fairly easily if we kept on winning, plus our non conference schedule will be good enough to help us, unlike it did this year. Once again TCU should be very good and I would not be surprised to see them in the top 10 with us. They do lose their all world DE and LB. It is all speculation at this point, gotta win that bowl game first.

If we beat TCU in our bowl game i am sure we will be ranked very high at the beginning of next year. Then we need to beat Virginia Tech and i think we could very easily be up there at 2 or 3 or maybe even 1 if there are some others with losses.

For those of you that don't get Sports Illustrated, The picture of the Broncos taking the field for the Nev. game is the first one in the magazine. I think it is the same one on the cover of the book that is coming out. It has Winston Venable leading with the hammer.

I agree with blueandorange that it wouldn't be that surprising to see Boise State start the next season ranked any where in the top #5. National Champs does their home work and have predicted the top 10 correctly 4 out of the last 6 years. That is not to say that they'll be ranked #2 but it could happen. Pat Forde from ESPN said he is thinking about voting Boise State #1 to start the season next year. My bet would be that we will be ranked win or lose anywhere from 1 - 8 to start next season.
Re: boise state #2 « Result #20 on Dec 16, 2009, 2:26pm »
I don't know about being #2. There would be a really good chance if we did beat TCU like you say. Even if we lose the bowl game there is a good chance that Boise State would be ranked around #5 to start the season. Just think about it, we will be losing 1 starter (not including Brockle who is hurt), so there will be 21 of 22 starters back. We are ranked #6 right now and have been for most of the season, so I don't feel that it is a streatch to have Boise State start the season at #5 win or lose.
